When to think neuro
Some signs are obvious; many are mistaken for something else. It is worth a neurological work-up if your pet shows any of these β the sooner the better for spinal cases especially.
Seizures & epilepsy
First-time fits or a change in an existing pattern β investigated, then managed with a real long-term plan.
Slipped discs (IVDD)
Sudden back or neck pain, dragging legs, or an inability to walk β time-critical, and a core reason on-site MRI matters.
Wobbliness & balance
Head tilt, circling or a drunken gait β vestibular and other central signs worked up properly.
Weakness & paralysis
Progressive weakness or collapse, and trauma to the spine after a fall or accident.
Why in-house CT & MRI change the outcome
For a spinal emergency, the delay of a referral scan can be the difference between walking again and not. Because our CT and MRI are on-site, we can image, diagnose and β where needed β go to surgery in the same visit, not next week.
Neurosurgery
Where imaging shows a surgical problem β a compressing disc, a spinal lesion β our team performs neurosurgery, with 24-hour intensive care for recovery afterwards rather than an early discharge. Every anaesthetic is monitored throughout.
The long-backed brigade
Low, long and lovable β and first in line for slipped discs. We know the drill.

A sudden inability to walk is an emergency
Do not wait for morning. Call 03-7782 3553 on your way in so the team is ready β we are open 24 hours.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have an MRI on-site, or do you refer out?
On-site. Gasing Veterinary Hospital has both CT and MRI in the building, so neurological cases can be scanned and treated in one place β no separate imaging appointment elsewhere. Call 03-7782 3553.
My dog had a seizure but seems fine now. Should I still come in?
Yes β a first seizure always warrants a check, even if your pet has recovered. We work out whether it is a one-off or something that needs ongoing management.
Is neurosurgery really available for pets in KL?
Yes, for suitable cases identified on imaging, with 24-hour post-operative intensive care on the same floor.
