What we use endoscopy for
A flexible camera that reaches places an X-ray can only hint at β so we can see, sample and sometimes solve the problem in one anaesthetic.

Foreign-body retrieval
Swallowed a toy, bone or hair-tie? We can often fish it out through the scope β no surgical incision.
Gut investigations
Chronic vomiting, diarrhoea or weight loss β a direct look at the stomach and intestines, with biopsies to find the cause.
Airway & nose
Persistent coughing, reverse sneezing or nasal signs β assessed directly rather than guessed at.
Targeted biopsies
Tissue samples taken precisely, so treatment is based on an answer, not a hunch.
Why minimally invasive matters
Less tissue disturbed usually means less pain and a faster recovery than open surgery. Where a scope can do the job, we would rather use it β and our imaging is right there to plan the case.
A closer look
Curiosity we can satisfy β a camera-eye view, no big incision.

Think your pet swallowed something?

Frequently Asked Questions
Is endoscopy better than surgery for a swallowed object?
Often, yes β if the object is reachable, we can retrieve it through the scope with no incision, which usually means a gentler recovery. Not everything is suitable, and we will tell you honestly if surgery is the safer route. Call 03-7782 3553.
Does my pet need a general anaesthetic for endoscopy?
Yes, a short monitored anaesthetic so the procedure is safe and stress-free. We assess fitness beforehand.
Can you take a biopsy at the same time?
Yes β investigating and sampling in the same session is one of the main advantages of endoscopy.
